OAT COOLANTS AND EXTENDED SERVICE INTERVALS

Intake manifold gaskets today must seal and survive in much more demanding operating environments than in the past, including exposure to extended life anti-freeze, known as OAT (Organic Acid Technology) coolants. For over 10 years, Magnum’s U.S.-based factory has been a leading supplier of advanced technology intake manifold gaskets for Original Equipment, OEM Service and the Automotive Aftermarket. For many applications, most of the molded intake manifold gaskets sold by leading aftermarket brands, were manufactured in Magnum facilities.

MAGNUM HAS YOU COVERED!

Magnum’s Manifold Gaskets Sets cover more than 80% of category sales. We offer gaskets for the most popular vehicles in America, including models from 1957 through 2009 and up. Chevrolet, Buick, Ford, Chrysler, GMC, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Isuzu and more… we cover them all. Our product line includes Intake Manifold Gasket Sets, Exhaust Manifold Gasket Sets and Combination Intake & Exhaust Gasket Sets.
Like every Magnum Gasket Set, our manifold gaskets are packaged in a professional, industrial grade carton with comprehensive tri-lingual labeling that include set contents, summarized application information and an interchange with other gasket brands. Magnum Installation Guides, included in many sets, offer important job-specific specifications and helpful tips for easier and more confident engine assembly.

MAGNUM HAS YOU COVERED!

You’d better be ready to take the heat if you’re going to seal an exhaust manifold, where temperatures can often exceed 1,000°F. You can count on Magnum to offer the best combination of steel layers and high-temp gasket materials to tackle the job in each application.

4 and 6 cylinder engines

Some inline 4 and 6 cylinder engines are designed with intake and exhaust ports on the same side of the cylinder head. This makes it possible, in some instances, to offer a single manifold gasket that combines features of both intake and exhaust gaskets. Magnum covers the most popular applications, using materials that meet the same high standards applied to our separate intake and exhaust manifold gaskets.

“DO’s & DON’Ts” of manifold GASKETS

Nowadays, it seems like you can’t mention the words “intake manifold gaskets” without starting a debate on why so many gaskets have failed in recent years.

One thing is for sure, some combination of engine designs, coolant formulations and neglected vehicle maintenance has created a torturous environment for some intake manifold gaskets. Magnum has addressed the issue, starting with their “OEM or better” philosophy.

Beyond this, for the most severe applications, Magnum MaxDry STL gaskets offer the added assurance of a steel core and FKM synthetic rubber sealing beads.

  • DON’T assume that replacing a failed intake manifold gasket is a “plug’n’play” solution
  • DO expect that the operating conditions leading to gasket failure will require attention to other engine and cooling system parts
  • DON’T think that good gaskets can compensate for severely warped manifolds, corroded surfaces or gummed up coolant passages.
  • DO the surface cleaning and preparation necessary for a long- lasting seal
  • DO replace severely warped plastic manifolds
  • DO thoroughly flush the cooling system, refill with the recommend type of anti-freeze, and be sure the thermostat is working properly
  • DON’T assume you won’t find Magnum Gaskets for a late model Acura or an old model Chevelle
  • DO check out Magnum’s online catalog and your local Magnum Gasket supplier

Magnum’s Gasket engineers have utilized their many years of engine sealing experience to select the right technology choice for each of the Intake Manifold Gaskets Sets currently offered in the Magnum Gasket line-up. Many late model engines have separate lower and upper (plenum) intake manifolds. The lower manifold gaskets seal the manifold against the cylinder head port surface, similar to older models. The upper manifold (plenum) must also be sealed top and bottom. Most Magnum Intake Manifold Gasket Sets for late model vehicles include lower and upper manifold gaskets, but there are exceptions due to differing repair practices for particular engines. Consult the Magnum eCatalog and package set contents listings for complete details.

For many years, manifold gasket requirements were pretty straightforward for the cast iron 4, 6, and 8 cylinder engines that ruled America’s roads. However, manifold gaskets for most late model vehicles must work under much more demanding operating conditions. The introduction of aluminum and bi-metal (aluminum/cast iron) engines placed more thermal stress and strain on gaskets. Todays’ fuel injected engines with nylon-filled plastic manifolds and separate intake plenums created new sealing challenges that demand much more sophisticated molded gasket designs and greater chemical resistance. Extended life anti-freeze, containing OAT (Organic Acid Technology) coolants, has played a controversial role in creating more severe duty cycles for intake manifold gaskets, once again upping the ante for sophistication of gasket designs and quality of materials.

MaxDry
You can’t beat the strength of steel. For the most demanding intake manifold applications, we offer Magnum MaxDry STL™ steel carrier gaskets. They feature super premium FKM synthetic rubber precision-molded onto an aluminized steel carrier. These gaskets offer maximum protection from exposure to harsh chemical environments.magnum

Our “Super Sealing” Magnum MaxDry SS™ gaskets combine the best OEM-type “molded rubber-on-carrier” designs with excellent performance and value. These intake manifold gaskets feature high-temperature silicone rubber seals precision molded on composite nylon carriers, which were selected to meet SAE material standards. These gaskets are your first choice for many foreign and domestic late model engines
Super Sealing

Magnum MaxPrint™ gaskets, skillfully manufactured by silk screen-printing synthetic rubber sealing beads on composition gasket material, are the best sealing solution for sealing many flat surfaces. MaxPrint gaskets are Magnum’s primary choice for traditional Ford-Chevy-Chrysler intake manifolds and are also used for numerous late model miscellaneous gasket applications.
